Daytime & Social Kava

This is the kava that won't put you to sleep straight away. Great option for achieving a calm and focus while still being able to continue doing the things that you love.

The perfect daytime alcohol alternative

If you are drinking during the day, chances are you won't need another kava for the evening. All kava will eventually make you sleepy.

Royal Fiji Platinum Lewena

Probably my absolute favourite. Smooth creamy and a real pleasure to drink. Not something to drink late in the evening before bed. Platinum Lewena is the Loa (Black) stem cultivar. Sweet smelling calm uplifting kava that is perfect for the day time and social occasions.

Kava Pros Vula

Definitely in my top two kavas. Vula is another variety of kava that is a great social or daytime kava drink.
Sweet smelling and very drinkable. Vula is the perfect choice for single cultivar experience during the day or with friends and family.

Kava Pros Melo Melo

This is one of our favourites right now. Melo Melo is our first kava from Vanuatu, and it stood out straight away. It has a bright, heady feel that’s great for daytime or when you’re sitting around with friends.

Smooth with a slightly creamy finish, this Santo-grown Melo Melo is an easy choice when you want a fun, social session.

Daytime Tips

If you’re drinking kava during the day, less is usually more. Start lighter than you think and give it time before adding more. Stronger doesn’t mean better, it just means heavier on the body.

For daytime use, aim for a steady, balanced feel. You can always adjust your next mix if needed. Going too strong too quickly can take away from the experience. If your goal is sleep or deep relaxation, save heavier mixes for later. Daytime kava should support your routine, not slow it down.

Preparation

Shake or stir your mix well before every cup. Kava settles at the bottom, so each serve should be evenly mixed. Pour small shots of around 100–150ml. Have one every 10–15 minutes. Don’t sip it slowly, drink the shot in one go, then wait and let it build gradually.

General Information About Kava

What is kava?
Kava comes from the root of a plant in the pepper tree family, known as Piper methysticum. It has been used for centuries throughout Pacific Island cultures in traditional and ceremonial settings, and today it’s widely enjoyed as a social drink.

What does kava do?
Kava is not like alcohol. The experience is more gradual and subtle. Many people drink it to unwind, lift their mood and ease into the evening. It’s often enjoyed in social settings because of the way it can create a steady, relaxed atmosphere.

What do the effects feel like?
Kava is patient. It often takes a few shells (2–6 cups) before the calming effect starts to build, and more than that before a noticeable buzz develops. The experience tends to layer gradually rather than hit all at once.

What you should know
Kava root naturally absorbs moisture, and drinking it can increase urination since it acts as a diuretic. Staying hydrated is important. If you drink kava regularly, it’s wise to keep your fluids up, take electrolytes, and maintain a balanced diet with fruit, vegetables and healthy fats.
